I would like to install my own payphone. Is it difficult?

If you are unsure, watch someone else install a few before you tackle the job on your own. Click HERE for a list of things you will need to complete an installation.
Beside the Coin revenue, are there any other ways to make money with a payphone?
Yes! There are two other direct forms of revenue generated by a payphone. They are Zero Plus and Dial-Around-Compensation. Zero Plus is that money generated by your customer dialing 0+ their number. This call is routed through your Operator Service Provider (OSP) who in turn pays you a contracted commission fee each month in the form of a check. Dial-Around-Compensation is new to the Payphone Industry. New laws that are part of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 have made it possible for Independent Payphone Providers (IPPs) to be compensated for calls that by-pass their OSP (1-800-COLLECT calls are a major part of this compensation).
What direct expenses are associated with a payphone's revenue?
There are two direct expenses that relate to the coin revenue only. These expenses are the monthly service charge from the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) and your Regional Toll and Long Distance Charge from your OSP.

I have the name of a company that claims they can help me Locate and Install payphones. How do I know they are reliable?
Check their references. This is the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself. But who is going to give you a bad reference? Well then, are they a member of the Payphone Service Provider Network? If they are not, they should be.
I have never seen the inside of a payphone. What does it look like?
Smartphones are designed a little different than the typical Bell Atlantic or LEC Payphone. They look alike from the outside but have some components not found in any other payphone. Click HERE for pictures of all the parts of a Smartphone.
What about locks?
Every payphone needs locks. Our payphones have a Medeco upper lock. This will enable your local locksmith to rekey your lock to your own unique source code. If your locksmith is unable or does not service Medeco locks visit Vendor's Repair Service. They are a national mail-order company that can perform this service for you.
